(Rochester, NY) -– Community artist and advocate Kelly Cheatle is announcing her campaign for Rochester City Council Feb 4 at 10:00 a.m.
Cheatle’s campaign will focus on uplifting the unique strengths of Rochester residents, prioritizing their needs and community issues and building long-term systems to continue growing and utilizing their agency:
“I’m stepping up to run for City Council in Rochester because our city is at a pivotal moment and the stakes have never been higher,” she said. “We cannot continue to allow the extraction of our community resources at the expense of our people.
The reason we have such a tremendous arts community in this city is because in recent memory Rochester was an affordable place to live. You could have time to spend on your arts practice. Runaway housing costs are draining the life out of our community. Its impacting small businesses. We needed to change from a city OF the arts to a city FOR the arts and that includes major reform of every system from housing to employment.”
Cheatle would join a growing list of progressives elected into office and she is excited to achieve a shared vision of growth for the city of Rochester.
