Media 2070 Announces New Senior Director

Anshantia “Tia” Oso Brings Years of Organizing and Communications Experience to the Media Reparations movement

By: MMM Editorial Team

Media 2070, a project committed to radically transforming oppressive systems in the media, has found a new director: Anshantia “Tia” Oso. Oso is a culture strategist, activist and speaker based in Los Angeles and a dynamic and experienced social justice leader and has organized for over 10 years leading campaigns to mobilize thousands of advocates for various issues in the public interest including racial justice and major global issues. She is best known for her work “Black at the Border,” launching Black voter campaigns and a successful media justice campaign to get press to stop using “illegal” when referring to immigrants.

Oso joins the three-year project just as it grows into a mainstream movement with national newsroom interest and community support. Oso will help flesh out the group’s framework for media reparations as well as unite several organizations into a more cohesive collective. As the senior director for Media 2070, she leads the work to build Black narrative power and advance media reparations as a necessary project for collective liberation.

Media 2070 team members are incredibly excited for the insight Oso will bring to Media 2070 and are looking forward to her guidance:

“We’ve worked with Tia for a while now and we’re always inspired by her,” said Venneikia Williams, Campaign Manager for Media 2070. “We know she’ll come in and join our team in a way that’s authentic and refreshing for everyone and help us advance our bigger goals.”

“I am very excited to join such an incredibly talented and intentional team,” said Oso. “I’m joining at such a crucial moment in both Media 2070’s work and my own. We both understand the role of the media to shape our communities and it’s time for us to liberate and create the space for Black narrative power going forward.”

One of the first major projects Oso will tackle as Senior Director is Media 2070’s popular Black Future Newsstand installation, which is slated for Chicago in early October.
