Collette Watson, Director of the Media 2070 project, and Khristopher J. Brooks, a reporter at CBS MoneyWatch, join host Carol Jenkins to discuss the challenges of being a Black journalist in America, including racism in the newsroom, being undervalued and underpaid.
Watson also explains media reparations and their significance in building equitable newsrooms. She highlights Media 2070's 17-minute documentary, Black in the Newsroom, which follows Elizabeth Montgomery, a former journalist at The Arizona Republic whose harmful experience altogether pushed her out of the journalism industry.
