Media 2070's Joe Torres was recently featured in an article for Public Square Amplified. Authored by MMM's Tianna Mañón, the article explores the long history of hiring then firing Black reporters, while still maintaining a guise of commitment to diversity.


The latest happened after the death of George Floyd. The entire nation was moved into action and editors promised more diverse coverage. However, as the piece explores, this has been temporary with many editors firing reporters, changing their beat or simply not giving them the support necessary.
