Samson Tonton’s famously large and colorful artworks will be on display at Lilypad East Gallery, 1 Bay Street, Westerly, Rhode Island on July 23. The exhibit is part of the Gallery’s Summer Soiree Series of Art and Song and takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Artist Michael Patterson will also be there along with musical guest Johnny Nicholas for the free Watch Hill Concert from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Along with Lilypad East, Tonton’s work is also available for public viewing at the Gallery’s sister location in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lilypad West. Exhibit curators purchased a total of 14 paintings with 11 displayed at the Wisconsin location and the other three in Rhode Island, giving art lovers across the north a chance to see Tonton’s work in person.
“I love to paint and I am excited to share my talent and passion with the world,” said Tonton. “My artwork is for everyone that wants to see and hear; the crying of the soul, the sound of an instrument, the balance of vibrant colors.”
With his distinctive cubism style and powerful cultural message, Tonton is at the forefront of a new generation of Black and Haitian artists breaking barriers and redefining the art world. Tonton was featured in an Ebony profile in 2023. His work was exhibited at ArtExpo New York in 2018 and 2022. For more information on Samson Tonton, visit https://www.artsbytonton.com/.
